In developing online marketing strategy, it is wise to consider the message you want to convey to readers and to align the look and feel of the website with other promotion efforts, such as written materials, videos and other images. The internet is a great way to promote any business, if done correctly. For those firms that conduct much of their business locally, the internet can still be a way to improve exposure and let others in the community know what you do.

While the web pages should be attractive, they should also include details about the location and services offered. It should also include a way for potential customers to get in touch, through email. Often basic questions can be answered in this manner. If your business provides consumable products that customers can order and pay for in advance, you will need to use the internet to build a store front that can take orders in a timely manner and process payments, quickly and securely. It is a good idea to include any graphics or logos that customers typically associate with your business, which may be included in stores signs or menus.

For those whose products or services can be purchased on the internet, developing online marketing strategy should include the use of searched key words that will bring up your business listing quickly. You can search for lists of commonly used key words or those that are most popular. You can then choose those popular or most searched words that relate most accurately to the business. If there is nobody in your organization familiar with web design, it may be advantageous to use a professional web design service. Professionals will know exactly which key words to use and will be able to incorporate your business image into the pages of the site.

Other considerations for using the internet to promote your business include the addition of product catalog pages and the importance of content. Because users do not spend more than fifteen seconds checking out the home page, it must provide enough information to promote what your business does, without being lengthy. It should be easy to read and spaced in a manner that makes the page look balanced. Colors are great for grabbing attention, but they should also carry out the colors or color scheme your business uses in other promotions. Catalog pages should be clean and spaced adequately. Do not attempt to put too many products on one page, when developing online marketing strategy.

• What long and medium term strategic keywords are you targeting?
• What fast ranking keywords are you targeting?

• How will your website support your linking strategy?

The answers to these questions are critical because:

• Your website content map (not your menu structure) will need to support your linking strategy. This will allow you to build natural links to many different pages, not just your home page.

• Knowing your linking strategy will help you plan your resources and budget correctly. For example, do you need to cover directories, blogs, social and professional networks, shopping portals, comparison portals, articles, press releases and other strategic targets.

•You need to have the right website platform. You may need an internal Blog, News Area, Forum and other Web 2.0 technologies to make your linking strategy effective.

The golden rule is to ensure your linking strategy is natural. What does this mean?

• If Google sees 100’s or 1000’s of links in a short period of time – it may class you as a Spammer and ban you from search engine results. Resist those tempting emails to get “lots of links, fast”

• Natural links have common themes to your web page. In other words pages on similar topics that link to each other.

• The links should come in to many of your web pages, not just your home page. People will naturally link the right content from their web page or posts

When done correctly your Online Marketing Strategy linking will bring increased traffic, improved search engine ranking. This will result in more enquiries and if the content of your website and your proposition is compelling, more leads and sales.

Your business growth strategy should include a well structured online marketing strategy for sales lead generation and lead nurturing to keep you top of mind with your clients and prospects. Research from Marketing Sherpa shows that 12.5% of leads are normally ready to buy now, 17.5% can be discarded or disqualified and a huge 70% are longer term opportunities worth nurturing.

This is where having an automated lead nurturing program as part of your Online Marketing Strategy can really make a difference to the return on your marketing efforts.

Most businesses seem challenged to keep in constant contact with their clients and prospects. The challenges with nurturing prospects and leads are many and may include:

• There is just not enough time in the day
• You may have many customer relationship products, excel spreadsheets and other data sources to manage and integrate
• Your process to send and schedule emails is manual and requires specific knowledge to be done correctly.
• You may struggle to develop good, interesting material.
• Pressure to improve results immediately pushes nurturing to one side
• Lead qualification and prioritisation is hard and for many is a long process without immediate results.

The longer term opportunities (70%) are in the interest stage of your products and services but as yet do not have the desire to buy. They are in “research” mode. This is typical in the business to business space and can range from 8 to 18 months in duration. For business to consumers this may still be anything up to 3 months or longer.

In contrast, the pressure on sales is to focus on hot prospects, now! They need to close deals for the month or the quarter and do not have the time to nurture possible deals that have a longer opportunity window. Many will probably not even start their buying process within the next 3 months.

A good lead nurturing strategy and system can plug this leaky hole in your marketing and sales pipeline. An automated system, with content well structured in paths can help qualify and score your leads automatically. At the same time, these leads can be automatically fed to your sales team as better qualified prospects.

The biggest mistake that is made is the belief that a monthly email is a lead nurturing program – it is far from it – although it is a good start, particularly if you have limited resources. The right strategy and system will use a combination of electronic, telephone and print to stay in contact with prospects.

The system can:

• Be smart enough to learn when each individual is most likely to open their email and send it at the right time
• Deliver content that they are interested in, from the sales person with whom they are dealing.
• Give you sales business intelligence so you know what your prospects are interested in.
• Seamlessly integrate your email with your website analytics so you can track your prospect’s behaviour end to end.
• Integrate with your sales pipeline system – customer relationship management.
• Possibly even tell you about who the company is, before you know who the person is looking at your online marketing.

The bottom line is that if you have an online presence and you don’t have a nurturing program in place, you are quite possibly missing out on the 70% that are opportunities for you. They are just not ready right now. You are allowing your competitors into the game, because you don’t keep in constant contact with relevant and valuable material.

To improve your sales lead generation, automate your online marketing strategy and your lead nurturing program. You can then take advantage growing your business without significant increases in marketing or business development resources.

Achieving maximum sales and return on value is based on how well you develop your online marketing strategy.  It can be extremely difficult to differentiate yourself from the competition when you do business online.  For any product or service that you sell, it is likely that there are dozens, hundreds or even thousands of other businesses available who are selling the exact same thing.  

So to maximize your potential, it is important to use key strategies to offer the best options to your customers. You should set yourself apart from the competition; continuously attract new customers and retain current clients.

What products and services do you offer to your clients or customers?  It is so important that you offer the highest quality in whatever it is that you offer.  If you cannot stand behind your products and services, it will be unlikely that you will attain your business objectives.  

In order to develop your online marketing strategy, you will need to look at exactly what you have to offer and determine first what audience it will appeal to and second how you can reach that audience.  It’s unlikely they will come to you without your developing a way to go to them first.  You can easily find ways to target your potential clients by identifying them and then looking specifically at ways to utilize the internet to get the information about your products and services to them.

After you have determined what you have to offer to your potential clients and customers and looked at ways to use the internet to reach them, you next need to look at ways to differentiate yourself from your competition.  If you and five other online stores all offer the exact same product and service, why should they choose to buy from you instead of one of the other businesses?  What, exactly, can you offer to ensure that you are the most valuable choice that they can make?  Whether it’s free shipping, enhanced support, superior reputation or any other factor, you need to identify these explicitly to your potential clients.

Finally, you need to continuously attract new customers as well as retaining your current clients in order to remain viable in your business objectives.  Although some new clients will probably be reached through word of mouth promotion by your existing clients; you cannot count on this as your only means to build up your clientele.  

You need to continuously find new ways to reach additional shares of the marketplace.  You may also need to continuously update your products and services in order to continue to appeal to your past clients.  If you sell a one-time-use kind of product, look for any products or services that may be related or may enhance your primary offering.  

Always remember to go back to your past clients in order to advertise new offerings while showing how valuable they are and reminding of the value you’ve offered in the past.  By diligent work, you can develop your online marketing strategy and enhance your ability to reach your business objectives.

Does Your Online Marketing Strategy Target Customers?

Your online marketing strategy will ultimately determine your success in business and therefore needs to be thought out carefully. When marketing on the internet attention must be paid to your target audience as much or more so than the techniques you employ. Since online marketers need to focus more on ‘attracting’ customers as opposed to traditional push marketing efforts employed offline what you ‘present’ and how is crucial. Obviously the customers is more in control online and the need to both attract and cater to them should be the basis of any online marketing plan.

Here are 3 key elements you want to include in your strategy when marketing on the internet to better attract and retain your target audience.

Know Your Customer

Your very first step in developing an online marketing plan is to identify who your customer is and how best to communicate with them. Are they young adults, musicians, young professionals or even scholars? Depending upon who you may be targeting your tone and delivery can vary greatly therefore communicating in a way that is comfortable to them is important.

Identifying your customers profile will also make it easier for you to find out ‘how’ to contact or promote to them. Not knowing who your customers are is like trying to hit a target in a dark room.

Be Helpful

One of the biggest keys to success in business is the willingness to always be helpful to current and future customers. This willingness is especially important online since it is the primary way in which you can develop relations with people. Whether it is supplying people with what they want or helping them to find it elsewhere your actions will reflect the type of person you are or business you represent. This is how many, if not most, make their buying decisions on the internet.

Supply Useful Information

Supplying information is HUGE when marketing on the internet because this is the primary means of communicating with your audience. Whether it is the content on a sales page, website and email or otherwise be sure it always contains something useful for the reader. Do not ever get in the habit of using content to only promote products and services in an aggressive fashion. These constant sales pitches will only turn people away.

Establishing a sound online marketing strategy is what will determine the degree of success in business you achieve. The focal point of any online marketing plan should be the audience you are targeting and not the techniques you are implementing. Online marketers need to concern themselves with ‘attracting’ customers since people ‘search’ for what they are looking for on the internet. It is therefore important as to what you are presenting and how you do so in order to succeed at gaining the attention of your target audience. The 3 key elements that must be included in your online marketing plan as discussed above all focus on the type people you are targeting. Your efforts and concerns need to zero in on attracting the attention of your target audience while also maintaining their interest. By knowing who you are targeting and reaching out to them you will be better able to gain their interest, loyalty and eventually their business as well.

Bear in mind that a website without sufficient quality traffic is like a barren island. In this article, we are going to briefly take a look at five online marketing strategies that is perfect for a newly developed site.

1. SEO – As soon as you site is up and running, the first thing you should do is optimize it for your chosen keywords. By optimizing your site, you stand a chance of receiving free targeted traffic and this one way people make sufficient sales as well as money. It is important to do some little research before picking your keywords because of the competition we are bond to face these days. However, despite the competition, we can still subdue the competitor with some extra work.

2. Blogging – The second thing you should do as soon as your site is ready is create a blog. Ensure you have this blog integrated to your site. Blogs serve many purposes by creating a blog from your site, you will be creating a fresh page as well as building your main site each time you make a blog post. You will also receive tons of free traffic when you optimize your blog as well. In fact, some people earn full time income from blogging alone.

3. Pay Per Click – Unlike in the past where you are charged a flat rate for advertising, with PPC, it is pay as you go. You only pay when the ad site sends a visitor to your site. This kind of online marketing strategy is very effective and a perfect way to test a new site/product to see if it converts. If you are looking for quick traffic, then you wouldn’t want to overlook PPC. With PPC you will need to have a budget for advertising and skills to effectively make the best use of your money.

4. Directory – Submitting your site to directory is also essential especially when you are doing SEO. This is because most directories take the time to approve (add) your link in their site. By doing this, you will be working ahead of time and you will also get traffic from many of these directories.

5. Opt-In Link – Most people who visit your site are rarely going to buy from you. The best marketing technique to use is to create an opt in page where people can leave their name and contact in exchange for your free information. You can then use an auto-responder to send them follow up messages from time to time.

The need for a well thought out online marketing strategy is the foundation of any successful internet business venture. In order to do this however you will need to decide upon the direction you are going to take in terms of who you will be targeting.

Marketing on the internet offers boundless opportunities based upon the fact that you have an entire global audience right there at the touch of your fingertips. With that being said in order to start an internet business you must know what portion of this global audience you will be targeting. Most serious entrepreneurs take inventory of their own skill set or interests to help them select the market profile and subsequent strategy they will use.

Here are the 4 different market profiles you will need to consider to determine the strategy you will use for marketing on the internet.

Working in an Established Market

A logical consideration is to enter into an established market and sell the types of products these people tend to buy. This model would generally involve selling affiliate products and to get the best results you  would want to make your approach different from that of your competitors. For the more serious entrepreneurs establishing an online brand is something to consider since this will make you more easily recognizable enabling you to stand out from the competition.

Working Within a Niche

This type of market would require you finding or developing a new product or service you can promote to the audience of an existing niche. This type of business venture would require more research but would also eliminate a lot of competition thereby making it potentially more profitable.

Expanding an Existing Market

By taking the products or services popular in any given niche and finding new customers to whom you can promote them, you are simply expanding the existing niche. Once again you will be needing to do a little research but the reward will be less competition and greater profits.

Creating a New Market

Developing new products that fill an existing needs takes the most time, research and resources but the end results are usually worth it if the product is successful. By creating a demand in this way you can easily dominate it while enjoying little or no competition and by far the greatest profit margins of any of the 3 previously discussed market types.

An effective online marketing strategy is determined by and developed for the customer base being targeted. Most serious entrepreneurs take into consideration certain market types and what is best suited for their particular interests and strengths before launching any online business venture. If fact for anyone wanting to start an internet business these same considerations will need to be made in order to select their best strategy. The 4 market profiles you will need to consider are reviewed above and each offers opportunities and challenges unique to the others. The selection you make will determine the strategy you take and will likely also be based upon your own strengths, weaknesses and interests.

No matter what sort of business you are involved in, the internet is the one place that everyone visits, so creating an online marketing strategy is essential. The days of getting by without an online presence are long gone if you want to be successful, whether you have a large company or just own a plumbing business that operates in your local area.

The majority of people have cell phones today which basically mean that they have a mobile connection to the internet, and people use this connection all the time. They are constantly using this connection to find places or things that they are interested in.

Without an online marketing campaign in place, your business will not be there to find when people are searching for the type of business or service that you offer. If they cannot find you but your competition are easy to find online, how much longer will your business continue to survive?

It is essential not only to be online, but to have an online marketing strategy in place. Here is a simple and inexpensive but very effective method to market your business online.

1. The first thing is to get a website set up, one that looks professional. There are so many businesses that spend hard earned money to put up cheap and unprofessional looking sites. A good attractive design will not cost any extra and it must also be consistent with the general look of your business. This includes your business cards and stationery.

2. Once your website is set up it needs to be search engine optimized. The purpose of this is to make it as easy as possible for search engines, not only to find your online business website, but also to get your site positioned so that the keywords used by potential customers to find what they are searching for, will put your business right in front of them. No matter how beautiful your website is or how great your business is, without search engine optimization, no one will know that your business exists online.

3. The third step in creating an online marketing strategy is to ensure that your website has a system to capture the email addresses of your potential customers. In order to do this you will need to get set up with an auto-responder service. They are not expensive and are easy to use, but to benefit from this it is important to give your visitors a reason to give you their email addresses, so offer them something of value in exchange for the information you are asking them to give you.

By capturing the email addresses of your potential customers you are getting an opportunity to interact with them and the chance to get them to buy from you multiple times, plus you will have the ability to keep your business in their minds so that when they need the type of business or service that your offer, you are the first person they think about.

When you have these steps in place you can start experimenting with online advertising and there are a variety of ways in which to do this. For example you could use anything from banner advertising to PPC (Pay Per Click) which can be quite expensive but it has the advantage of allowing you to place a small advert related to whatever a person is searching for next to their search engine results. Every time you use Google you will notice these ads and this is a good way to get visitors to your business website quickly.

Follow these steps and before you know it you will have an online marketing strategy in place. These techniques are not difficult to implement but the amount of business you will gain and the profit you will make are worth the effort involved. So get your online marketing strategy in place as soon as you can because your competition might already be there and reaping the rewards.
